Former Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal has been re-appointed as the Dutch football senior team manager for the third time.

van Gaal who had previously announced his retirement from football back in 2019 signed an agreement with the Dutch FA to manage the national side.

Speaking on his appointment, he said: “Dutch football has always been close to my heart and national coaching is in my view a key position for the further advancement of our football. Moreover, I consider it an honour to coach the Dutch national team.

“There is little time for the next qualifying matches, which are immediately crucial for participation in the World Cup. The focus is therefore immediately 100 per cent on the players and the approach. After all, I was appointed for that.

“It is good to be back in Zeist. By now I have already spoken to a number of players and the technical staff has been put together with the KNVB. I am very much looking forward to getting the job done

    together.”

The managerial position of the Dutch national team was left vacant following Frank de Boer’s departure after a disappointing outing at the just concluded tournament.

69-year-old van Gaal who once said: “I am a pensioner now. I have no ambition to be a technical director or a TV pundit.” Will now take charge of the team up until the 2022 World Cup and will work with assistant managers Danny Blind, Henk Fraser and Frans Hoek as goalkeeper coach.
